Hollywood's been fighting hunger – and now some of these stars are being recognized. But the award they might get isn't for all the help they've given to hungry people; it's the well-known Academy Award, or "Oscar".

Penelope Cruz, a WFP celebrity partner, has received a nomination for Best Actress for her performance in “Volver”. She has been working with WFP for the last two years, and has visited camps in Uganda where the WFP provides food.
Djimon Hounsou, one of the stars in the movie “Blood Diamond”, is up for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Hounsou, along with co-star Jennifer Connelly, learned first-hand about WFP’s work to feed the hungry while shooting the film in Africa. Afterwards, they filmed a short announcement together, asking the question: “What is so powerful that it can make you overcome your greatest fear … turn your brother into an enemy … and leave wounds that scar long after the fighting is over? What is so potent, it passes effortlessly from mother to child … from generation to generation?” The answer—“Hunger—so deadly it kills 25,000 people a day.”
The announcement has been playing before the movie in theaters all over the world. The film itself includes scenes of WFP food deliveries in the 1990s, which kept thousands of people from going hungry during Sierra Leone’s bloody civil war.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars alongside Hounsou and Connelly, has been nominated for Best Actor.
