As a group you can accomplish a lot. Read about some classic classroom fundraising ideas.

AT SCHOOL

POETRY READING

Hold a poetry reading evening for relatives and friends. Get students to either read out or write their own poems. Family members could also volunteer to read out their own poems or other’s related to the hunger issue or specifically on the country or campaign you would like to raise funds for. Remember to advertise your event and stress that all the money raised by selling tickets will go to the cause.

HAVE BREAKFAST IN SCHOOL

Offer to serve breakfast at school for children – and parents if they want to stay. Charge a fee per person for breakfast. If you are close to a holiday season you can have a themed breakfast e.g. If its near christmas you can have a teacher or parent dress up as Santa Claus. You can sell parents pictures of the children with Santa. Perhaps a teacher could read out a Christmas story at the breakfast.

CHARITY CALENDAR

Produce a school calendar with children’s artwork or pictures. Each grade can be given a month and then chose the best picture from each class to put in the calendar. Sell the calendar at the start of the school year to parents.

GET READY FOR HALLOWEEN

Buy a bunch of pumpkins and have the children decorate them with paint, glitter, string, make hats or glasses, etc….. When all the pumpkins are ready, either have an auction or just put them up for sale when parents come to pick up the children.

STUDENT'S ARTWORK

Scan children’s artwork and make note cards out of them. Make a collection from various children’s work. Place each child’s name and age on the back of the card along with your schools name. Package the cards nicely – an inexpensive idea is to put the cards in small clear plastic bags tied up with colorful ribbon. Sell these greeting cards at parent’s evenings or at the end of term.

SCHOOL YARD SALE

Organize a school yard sale. Tell parents and teachers about this fundraising effort and ask them to bring in items from home that they would be willing to donate to the cause. Set up an area in the schoolyard or school gym and price all the items that you receive in donation. Make sure you advertise the yard sale well – through your church, local groups etc You may want to ask fellow teachers, parents or any of the older students to donate a few hours of their time to help manage the stall area on the day of the yard sale. To raise more funds perhaps have a stall selling tea and coffee or cold drinks if it’s a hot day.

PENNIES IN A JAR

Make an interesting box and put it in your classroom. Have a box per classroom and see which class fills the box with the most pennies. To make it more fun and challenging, you can make pennies count FOR your class., silver counts AGAINST your class and dollars counts FOR your class. You’ll be sure to find people dropping silver into each other’s jars! Have a prize for the class that fills the box with the most pennies e.g. A pizza lunch for the winners.

CONCERT

If your school has a choir, arrange a mini after-school or lunchtime concert. Charge those that want to see the show.

DEBATE EVENING

Research a number of debate issues. Ask your teachers, fellow students or invite various community members to debate your chosen issue. Charge an entrance fee to the audience to come and listen to the debate. (e.g. have the head of your school debate that students should never have to wear a school uniform and have students in opposition arguing for uniforms).

DRESS DOWN DAY OR THEME DAY

If your school has a uniform, try to organize a dress down day or a theme day (e.g. an easy one is to choose a colour). Raise funds by charging students who want to participate. Obviously make sure your school headmaster gives you the okay first!

BOOK SALE

Ask all your friends, relatives and teachers to donate their old books. Set up a table either in school or perhaps outside church (make sure you ask permission first) and sell the books you have managed to collect. Advertise your book sale a few days before hand by putting up some posters. You could donate any left over books you cannot sell to your school or local library.

GUESS THE AGE OF YOUR TEACHER!

Make sure you ask your teachers permission for this one! Ask students to pay to guess the age of your teacher. The more people that guess, the more money you raise.
