Whenever disasters happen, whether due to nature or man, WFP acts to help those in crisis.
HUNGER CRISES
Hunger is a major threat in a wide range of emergencies, from natural disasters, like the tsunami tragedy in Asia, to man-made crises such as the ongoing civil conflict in Darfur, Sudan.

WEST AFRICA
Many West Africans are having a very bad "hungry season" due to a combination of conflict, drought and the worst locust invasion in years.
TSUNAMI
Over 150,000 people were killed and the homes and livelihoods of millions of people destroyed when an enormous earthquake in the middle of the Indian Ocean created huge waves that crashed into heavily-populated costal communities in Asia.
DARFUR
Civil conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan has caused many people to flee their homes. Many of these displaced people are in danger of starvation.
