The game's first mission depicts the natural and man-made disasters that can lead to hunger, while the second mission demonstrates that a variety of food groups are required for health.

Food Force explains the causes of hunger and malnourishment in the following ways:

  • The initial briefing reports that the crisis on Sheylan has arisen due to a combination of man-made and natural disasters. Carlos Sanchez, Food Force’s A.L.I.T.E. officer, explains how civil conflict has aggravated food scarcity due to poor harvests resulting from drought.
  • In Mission 1: Air Surveillance, the player pilots a helicopter over barren, drought-affected land. Rivers have dried up and people have abandoned their villages due to civil unrest and food scarcity. The challenge is to find and count them.
  • In Mission 2: Energy Pacs, the player meets Food Force’s nutritional expert, Joe Zaki, who explains how nutrients in various food groups work together to keep the body healthy. Joe also identifies the essential foodstuffs that WFP supplies in emergencies. The player’s challenge is to find the correct balance among the food groups.

Lesson Plans

Feeding Minds, Fighting HungerThe following lesson plans, each containing objectives, concepts and activities, were designed for international use by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization's "Feeding Minds, Fighting Hunger" education programme.

Since grade levels and student ages are defined differently around the world, teachers should examine the plans, choose which level best suits their students -- primary, intermediate or secondary -- and then fine-tune their chosen plan.
